Sunpentown SD-65E

The Sunpentown SD-65E is a 65 pint dehumidifier which is perfect for people who are having trouble with musty odors in their homes. It has been designed to remove condensation, mold and mildew which can bring on allergy symptoms due to dust mites. What’s great about this model is the flexibility you have with the humidity settings. It works well in a 500 sq ft area and comes fitted with dual fan speeds to further enhance indoor air quality.

Review Details

The best feature about the SD-65E is the efficiency with which it will remove moisture from the air in your home. Air that’s too damp can cause damage to furniture as well as health problems, and this is why Sunpentown have brought to the market an exceptional dehumidifier to combat both problems. With the touch of a button it’s possible to adjust the humidity in 5% increments. It will reduce the levels to as low as 35% and can operate at temperatures as low as 41 degrees Fahrenheit.

The consumer also benefits from dual water removal. The bucket is equipped with an automatic shut-off and full light indicator. For further ease of use, it has a gravity guided continuous drainage port.

What We Liked

  • Eco-Friendly
The SD-65E has a CFC free R-410A refrigerant that helps protect the ozone layer. It also has new and improved compressor, fan and refrigeration coil that further enhances energy efficiency.
  • Advanced Moisture Removal
The Sunpentown SD-65E will remove up to 65 pints of moisture every 24 hours. It’s equipped with an electronic control panel which will allow you set humidity levels as low as 35% or has high as 80% which gives one of the widest ranges on the market.
  • Dual Drainage
This model will allow you to manually empty water from the bucket, alternatively it’s possible to make use of the continuous drainage option which is gravity guided.
  • Ease of Use
You will have the added benefit of casters, making it easy to move from room to room, and soft touch controls for further ease of use.

What We Didn't Like

  • Fan Noise
On its highest setting, this model can produce noise. However, if you want power and the ability to reduce the humidity levels in a room quickly, this is a small price to pay.
  • Excessive Heat
It has been reported the SD-65E can raise the temperature by as much as 5 degrees when working on its highest setting. For this reason, it’s more suitable for basement areas, or spaces that are very damp and cold.

The Sunpentown SD-65E does exactly what the manufacturer says it will. First and most importantly, it removes a high amount of moisture from the air very quickly and will keep the humidity levels to an acceptable level. It’s also incredibly efficient at preventing mold and mildew. But, it can be noisy and if this is an issue, you may want to consider the Frigidaire FAD704DUD which is not only quieter, but also slightly cheaper.
