You actually get 3 units in one with the SoleusAir KY-80. It will cool the air with a capacity of 8000 BTU, dehumidify by removing just under 29 pints of moisture per day, and can also be used as a fan if you just want to circulate the air rather than cool it. This unit has many features that make it perfect for small basements, bedrooms, offices and sunrooms that are up to 200 square feet in size.
SoleusAir has thought about energy efficiency with the KY-80 even though it has a number of different functions.
There are 2 additional modes you benefit from with this unit. The first is the sleep mode which will efficiently cool the air in your bedroom and at the same-time automatically reduce the temperature. This model will also alternate the compressor on/off to help reduce noise.
The second energy saving option is the auto mode. It’s possible to set the desired temperature, and the unit will do the rest for you. It will operate in fan mode until cooling is require thus, saving on energy. The KY-80 is also packed with other features that make it one of the most convenient units on the market.
What We Liked
- Advanced Evaporative Technology
SoleusAir has used unique evaporative technology with the KY-80. It removes moisture from the air which drips on to the condenser. The condenser then evaporates the water and sends it out through the hose with the hot air. If the water is not fully evaporated, it’s sent back to the condenser to go through the process again.
- Easy of Use
The KY-80 has intuitive controls with a LCD that displays the temperature settings and timer. It’s also fitted with useful indicator lights associated with each mode.
You can operate the KY-80 from across the room with the full function remote control. From here it’s possible to select the fan speed, change modes and set the timer.
- Takes Up Little Room
The SoleusAir is conveniently small so it won't take up too much space in an already small room.
The unit can also be used to dehumify your rooms. With a capacity of 28.8 pints/day it will easily make the indoor atmosphere more comfortable.
- Auto Re-Start
Once resumed (after power loss), the unit will automatically re-start based on the settings that were previously programmed in.
What We Didn't Like
- Noise Levels
The KY-80 might not be the best option for your bedroom. Some have noted that it can be noisy when in use overnight, but the reviews are mixed.
- Small Square Footage
Something you should consider is this unit has a capacity of 8000 BTU and will only effectively cool small rooms no larger than 200 square feet.
There is little to be said about the SoleusAir KY-80 that can be considered negative. It’s a well built, powerful little air conditioning unit that will also keep moisture in a room down to an acceptable level. It’s packed full of additional features that many other manufacturers cannot boast in this price range. If you have a small room that’s overly stuffy and want an inexpensive way of keeping it cool, this unit is definitely worth considering.Review by AirReflect ©
