The Haier DE65EK 65 pint dehumidifier is not unattractive to look at. It comes in a clean white color and has soft curves which all add to the overall look. The manufacturer has very proudly announced this model was voted a “best buy” by one leading consumer report due to its energy efficiency, value for money and competent water removal.
The DE65EK comes with all the features you would expect from this manufacturer, they have definitely thought about ease of use when it comes to water removal. This model is fitted with a larger than average easy access bucket which means less emptying. Of course, you can also make use of the direct drain option.
When using the bucket as an option, your unit will sound an alarm when it’s full. You also benefit from a 24 hour on/off timer which makes using this dehumidifier an absolute breeze. Add to this the adjustable humidistat and Smart-Dry auto adjusting fan and you have a unit that really needs little attention when in operation.
What We Liked
- Functional Controls
The DE65EK has easy to use touch-button electronic controls and the display panel will tell you both the current and set humidity levels.
- Unique Smart-Dry Feature
Haier has included a Smart-Dry feature with this model which means the unit will automatically set the appropriate speed depending on the settings and the relative humidity in the room.
- Trouble Free Drainage
You have two options with the DE65EK. The first is the large easy access bucket which comes with a bucket full indicator and alarm. Alternatively, you can make use of the continuous drainage option.
The DE65EK comes with easy roll casters and hand recesses to the sides so it can be moved from room to room, or floor to floor with ease.
What We Didn't Like
- Bucket Full Design Flaw
Based on various opinions, there appears to be an issue with the auto-shut off on this unit. For this reason many consumers have experienced an overflow when using the bucket as their preferred drainage option.
- Continuous Drainage Issues
When hooked up to a hose, it has been reported this dehumidifier will still fill the bucket first. The only way around this problem seems to be to tilt the unit back.
- Durability issues
Several users have reported that this dehumidifier works great, but only for a few years, months or even weeks. It's unclear if Haier already addressed the issue.
Haier has done their best to bring a large capacity dehumidifier to the market that has all the features you would expect. The fact it has been voted a “best buy” can go some way towards the promise of a good product. However, the design flaws stated above are something that should be addressed. For even less money you may wish to consider the Frigidaire FAD704DUD which has more capacity and far better reviews.Review by AirReflect ©
