The Haier DE45EK has the capacity to remove 45 pints of moisture from the air in a 24 hour period. Given the size of this unit, it will do a remarkable job in an average sized basement or garage. The design has been well thought out, with attractive curves and a visible reservoir panel at the front. For further convenience, the controls are located at the top.
The DE45EK is pretty basic when it come to ‘bells and whistles’, but it has been designed to do the job at hand, and that’s effectively remove moisture and dry the air.
The most notable benefit is the way in which the fan works, it has 2 speeds and uses Smart-Dry technology. This means that when the humidity levels are set, the unit will compare the relative humidity in the room and automatically adjusts the fan speed required. This is an excellent idea as it doesn’t require any human intervention and helps with saving energy.
Unlike many other dehumidifiers of this size, the bucket holds up to 45 pints of water which means less emptying, and the unit will also give off an audible alarm when the bucket’s full.
What We Liked
- Smart-Dry Technology
Fitted with 2 fan speeds, the DE45EK will cleverly compare the humidity level that’s set with the level in the room and adjust the speed accordingly.
- Large Bucket Size
The bucket with this model holds up to 45 pints of water which makes for less trips to the sink to empty it. It will also alert you to a full tank with an inbuilt alarm.
- Filter Check Reminder
The DE45EK will take the guesswork out of when the filter needs to be cleaned, as it’s equipped with an indicator to remind the job needs doing.
- Energy Efficient
Energy Star Rated, the DE45EK will not cost an inordinate amount of money to run, even if it’s needed 24/7.
What We Didn't Like
- Automatic Shut-Off
This dehumidifier does not have an automatic shut-off when the tank is full. It does have an alarm, but it still has to be switched off manually. However, the continuous drainage option can eliminate this problem.
- Noise Levels
If the unit needs to adjust to a higher setting the fan can be noisy, which can be a distraction if used in places other than a garage or basement.
Considering the price for the DE45EK and the fact it has few additional features some other models have, this unit is very efficient at the job it’s designed for. With the Smart-Dry technology, and two drainage options there are few other models on the market that can match the value for money this dehumidifier offers. If the lack of an automatic shut-off bothers you, the Frigidaire FAD504DUD may be an option.Review by AirReflect ©
