Featured in white, the Friedrich D50AP dehumidifier has a very clean look. It can be forgiven for looking more like a mini-fridge, as this means it will not look out of place in areas of the home that can become very humid. There are many benefits with this model, not least of all the continuous drainage option which eliminates the need to constantly empty a bucket.
This 50 pint dehumidifier comes with 2 options for drainage. To remove the captured water, you can either make use of the front loading 16.2 pint bucket (which can easily be removed), or it can be connected to the included drainage hose for continuous use. The unit also has an internal condensate pump that allows you to pump water up to 15 feet away.
The D50AP can operate in temperatures as low as 41 degrees Fahrenheit and has an automatic defrost cycle. The controls with this model are easy to use with digital temperature and timer settings conveniently placed on a control panel at the top. It’s also possible to see the current humidity level as well as the desired setting.
What We Liked
- Drainage Options
You can make use of the front load bucket or attach it to the drainage hose. To make things even easier, you can also use the internal condensate pump to pump the water up.
- In-Built Humidistat
You can set your desired humidity levels from 30 to 90% in increments of 5%, at the touch of a button.
- Easy Maintenance
The filter included with the D50AP is totally washable and can easily be removed by sliding it out of the front panel.
- Easy to Use Controls
The control panel on this model couldn’t be simpler. It’s possible to set the desired humidity level, and the digital display will show both the temperature and timer settings for further ease of use.
This model has easy to roll casters and two side carry handles so moving it around is a breeze.
What We Didn't Like
- Emptying the Bucket
The bucket with the D50AP can take as much as 16.2 pints of water, which can be heavy. Users have reported that spillage is an issue when emptying the unit in this way.
- Continuous Fan
The fan with this model will keep running even when the compressor has powered off. This can be an energy usage issue for some consumers.
The Friedrich D50AP is not unpleasant to look at, and could be mistaken for something other than a dehumidifier. It’s perfect for relatively damp areas of the home and does the job at hand efficiently. The “quibbles” consumers have with this unit far out-weighed the benefits. With two different drainage methods and a pump for further convenience, we believe this model is very well priced.Review by AirReflect ©
