Danby DDR7009REE
The Danby DDR7009REE 70 pint dehumidifier is actually pretty compact, considering the amount of moisture it’s capable of removing from the air. It can be used both in basements, large rooms in the home and can also be used in commercial buildings. This model will comfortably dry the air in rooms from a size of 1200 to 3800 sq ft without an issue.
Review Details
Not only will the DDR7009REE prevent mold and mildew from forming in your home, it will also make the air you breathe cleaner. In addition it also removes the ‘clammy’ feel that humid environments can produce.
This unit includes a dual water removal system. The water can either be collected into the bucket, or you can make use of the drainage system which will remove the water to an external outlet. As an optional extra, the Danby is equipped to accept a condensate pump which will remove moisture into another location.
Along with all the additions you would expect with a dehumidifier of this quality you will also be provided with an electronic remote control, which is somewhat of a rarity with dehumidifiers in general.
What We Liked
- Multiple Water Removal Options
Equipped with both a bucket and continuous drainage option, the Danby DDR7009REE also has the capability to accept a condensate pump which makes it one of the most versatile on the market. - Advanced Safety Options
This model has delayed start-up protection, which means the compressor will automatically delay the start-up and prevent overheating. It will also stop the circuit breaker from tripping if the unit is switched on or off too quickly. In addition, there is an automatic defrost system and auto restart after a power failure. - Energy Efficient
Danby has ensured this model is Energy Star Rated, and uses an R-410A refrigerant that will not deplete the ozone. - Automatic Humidity Adjustment
Setting the level of humidity couldn’t be easier. Simply enter the desired level and your unit will maintain the ambient levels for you.
What We Didn't Like
- Bucket Size
The capacity of the bucket on this model is a little over 16 pints. Considering it will easily remove as much as 70 pints this can be an issue. However, Danby have given the consumer 2 other water removal options. - Continuous Fan
The fan will continue to run once the compressor has turned off. This can cause energy use concerns and background noise. However, since the DDR7009REE is Energy Star Rated it will still keep bills down.
Conclusion
Considering this unit is equipped with all the additional features many dehumidifiers have and more, we consider this to be excellent value for money. There are few negatives to note. It’s efficient (having received a recommendation from the Good Housekeeping Research Institute which found it removes over 70 pints of water per day), and will easily keep any large basement or living area moisture free.
